How to Properly Measure an Insulated Glass Unit in a Plastic Window
For preliminary calculation (without removing glazing beads)
Measurement is taken along the outer contour of the glazing beads (as shown in the photo).
- Width: from the outer edge of the left glazing bead to the outer edge of the right glazing bead.
- Height: from the upper outer edge of the glazing bead to the lower outer edge.
- Subtract 10 mm from each dimension.
Why subtract 10 mm?
This is a technological gap required for:
- proper installation
- adjustment
- compensation for thermal expansion

For precise measurement

Remove the glazing beads.
Carefully pry them off with a putty knife or chisel (start from the long side). -
Measure the insulated glass unit without the frame:
- width
- height
- Measure the thickness (using a tape measure or caliper).
