For preliminary calculation (without removing glazing beads)

How to measure an insulated glass unit by glazing beads

Measurement is taken along the outer contour of the glazing beads (as shown in the photo).

  • Width: from the outer edge of the left glazing bead to the outer edge of the right glazing bead.
  • Height: from the upper outer edge of the glazing bead to the lower outer edge.
  • Subtract 10 mm from each dimension.
Why subtract 10 mm?
This is a technological gap required for:
  • proper installation
  • adjustment
  • compensation for thermal expansion

Suitable for preliminary price calculation.

For precise measurement

  1. Remove the glazing beads.
    Carefully pry them off with a putty knife or chisel (start from the long side).
  2. Measure the insulated glass unit without the frame:
    • width
    • height
  3. Measure the thickness (using a tape measure or caliper).
Most common thicknesses:
24 mm • 32 mm • 40 mm
If the insulated glass unit is already removed:
  • width
  • height
  • total thickness
